We are continuing our quest to live from the sea but are starting to wonder if that’s possible! Thirty cays make up the Berry Islands, dangling like a cluster of fruit along the eastern edge of the Great Bahama Bank. Unspoiled, serene and mostly uninhabited, they are known for white-sand beaches, palm-fringed shores, blue holes, and near some islands, prolific fishing grounds. Join us for an escape to this idyllic paradise.

The Great Guana Cay reef was once recognized as one of the best dive sites in the world so we’re sailing from Elbow Cay north to Great Guana Cay to check it out. We’ve heard it may not be as pristine as it once was, but we’re eager to find out for ourselves and of course hunt for fish.

We’re sailing further south into the central stretch of the Abacos in the Bahamas, looking for cute Bahamian towns and beautiful reefs for admiring and hunting for fish. To avoid shallow shifting sands and shoaling in the Sea of Abaco we have to traverse the notorious Whale Cay Cut, known for swells and Abaco rage sea conditions, if the trip isn’t timed properly. We are sailing to the Abacos in the Bahamas! We've got great wind, but it's a bit tricky because it's coming pretty much from where we want to go. So we need to sail upwind in the narrow Sea of Abaco in our catamaran. Join us as we navigate these waters and dive the reef off Green Turtle Cay.

Our time sailing in the Bahamas is coming to an end. We will have sailed just under 500 nautical miles in 19 days. The main purpose of the trip was a cruising test, not only for the vessel but for us. To discover if we are capable of harnessing the wind to travel to uninhabited islands, navigating to unknown destinations, understanding the weather and how to handle storms, making our own water, generating power mainly from the sun and living self-sufficiently.

We’re making our way north up the Bahamas island chain on our way back to Ft. Lauderdale. We stop in beautiful Shroud Cay, one of our favorite destinations yet, to paddle the crystal clear lazy river in search of Driftwood Beach, and visit Highbourne Cay on a quest for our final snorkeling spot in the Bahamas.

This week we’re taking the dinghy 12 nautical miles from Staniel Cay to Compass Cay to look for Rachel’s Bubble Bath and the Rocky Dundas caves. We plan to take the inside route in the calm protected waters but it’s going to be tricky navigating the shallow waters and sand bars.

This week we’re exploring the absolutely stunning Exumas Land + Sea Park sailing our Seawind 1600 Catamaran. We’re starting off at Cambridge Cay, also known as Little Bells Cay, a private island that welcomes visitors ashore.
